Las Vegas Raiders land franchise quarterback in 2025 NFL mock draft
The Las Vegas Raiders have been in a quarterback carousel since the departure of Derek Carr during the 2023 offseason. The Raiders have already run through three different starting quarterbacks in the last year, and the franchise's future at the position is extremely bleak.
Aidan O'Connell showed flashes in his rookie season but had an underwhelming preseason and lost the starting competition to Gardner Minshew. Though Minshew nearly led the Indianapolis Colts to the playoffs last season and is a solid bridge quarterback, it's clear he isn't capable of being the Raiders' franchise signal-caller.
The Raiders will likely be in the quarterback market this offseason for the third consecutive year, and CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso believes it's time for the team to spend an early draft pick on a potential franchise quarterback. In his latest mock draft, Trapasso has the Raiders selecting Georgia's Carson Beck with the No. 6 overall pick. Trapasso notes stability as the primary reason Beck would be a good fit in Las Vegas.
At this point, no one has any clue how the quarterback position will shake out in April -- there's no real consensus for these top guys -- but Beck feels like the safest bet, and the Raiders need stability at the game's most vital position.
While Beck isn't the most exciting prospect, he plays clean and mistake-free football and would be in a position to win immediately. The 22-year-old has flourished since taking over as Georgia's starting quarterback, tossing 31 touchdowns and six interceptions in 16 starts.
The Raiders' defense has the potential to be one of the better defenses in the NFL if they can fix their run defense issue, and the offense has explosive playmakers in Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, and Beck's former teammate, Brock Bowers.
The former four-star recruit would be put in a competent situation in his rookie season and could finally be the answer at the quarterback position for Las Vegas.
