How Packers used newly acquired $48 million weapon to overcome loss vs. Colts
The Green Bay Packers beat the Indianapolis Colts at home in Lambeau Field 16-10. The win was significant because it was their first game after Jordan Love suffered an MCL Sprain and Malik Willis started at quarterback in his place.
Willis had a solid game, but the difference was the running game, where Green Bay dominated to the tune of 261 total rushing yards, and Josh Jacobs was the primary runner with 151 yards on the ground on 32 carries. He also averaged 4.7 yards per carry. It’s worth noting that the team as a whole had a total of 53 carries on the ground and leaned on the running game all game.
Jacobs signed a massive four-year $48 million contract this past offseason after five years with the Oakland and later the Las Vegas Raiders. He was drafted by the Raiders in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama.
He was dominant in a crowded running back room at Alabama next to Najee Harris, Damien Harris, Brian Robinson Jr., and Jerome Ford. Then, he became the focal point at running back for the Raiders and hit over 1,000 rushing yards in three out of the five years he was with the Raiders and he had over 800 rushing yards in every year he has been in the NFL.
Jacobs is pivotal for the Packers to hang on and keep things together while Love tries to get healthy. He was massive in the game against the Colts and it should set some Packers fans at ease knowing they have Jacobs available in the backfield.
