Steelers NFL Power Rankings Week 3 roundup: Pittsburgh crashes a top 5
It wasn't pretty by any means, but the Pittsburgh Steelers managed to secure their second win of the 2024 campaign in Week 2, defeating the Denver Broncos, 13-6.
Pittsburgh got off to a promising start on offense, but that momentum didn't last into the second half. Thankfully, the defense was able to stand on its head once again, limiting the Broncos to just 295 total yards and six points.
Now, the Steelers will turn their attention to Week 3, when they draw a matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, who are also 2-0. The Steelers may also have to make a decision at quarterback if Russell Wilson is healthy enough to play.
Justin Fields has done enough to help the Steelers get off to a 2-0 start, but the offense has been anything but impressive. We continue to believe head coach Mike Tomlin will turn the ball over to Wilson once he's good to go. Pittsburgh has to see what it has in the veteran signal-caller and if he can elevate the offense.
With the victory, let's take a look at where the Steelers land in the Week 3 NFL power rankings of experts, one of which has them in the top five.
Steelers NFL Power Rankings Week 3
Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: 5 (+4)
Iyer:"The Steelers have won plenty with defense and special teams, opening with statement wins in Atlanta and Denver before facing a higher degree of difficulty at home in Week 3 vs. the 2-0 Chargers. Justin Fields is making the formula work by protecting the ball and leaning well on a complementary running game."
Taylor Wirth, NBC Sports: 13 (-1)
Wirth: "Justin Fields has played OK in place of Russell Wilson, but this offense needs an upgrade at quarterback. Is DangerRuss still that guy? The defense can carry them until they have an answer."
Lou Scataglia, NFL Spin Zone: 13
Scataglia:"The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Denver Broncos in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL Season, but was not a pretty win, and while they are 2-0, the way they are winning these games is not sustainable. They’ve scored 31 points in two games, which is just not going to cut it, but some Steelers fans would lead you to believe that QB Justin Fields is a franchise QB and can keep winning games like this."
