College basketball rankings: UCLA's rebuilt roster has the Bruins moving up in the way-too-early Top 25 And 1
UCLA has 10 different players who finished this past season either starting for the Bruins or another school
By Gary Parrish • 1 min readUCLA started 28th at BartTorvik.com this past season but finished 107th in the NET with a 16-17 record featuring a 1-10 mark in Quadrant 1 opportunities. In short, the Bruins were surprisingly bad. The result was Mick Cronin's worst record since he also lost more than he won while rebuilding Cincinnati in the 2007-08 season.
The Bruins' roster needed an overhaul.
This week, Cronin continued that overhaul by securing a commitment from Trent Perry, a 6-foot-4 point guard ranked 30th in the Class of 2024, according to 247Sports. The McDonald's All-American is the eighth new player set to enroll at UCLA in advance of next season. His addition has the Bruins up to No. 18 in Version 21.0 of the 2024-25 CBS Sports preseason Top 25 And 1.
Kansas remains No. 1.
As Dan Cronin noted on social media, UCLA's projected roster now features 10 different players who finished this past season either starting for UCLA or another school. That's obviously rare, possibly unprecedented and a direct result of how name, image and likeness opportunities have combined with transfer-waivers to create more player-movement within the sport than we've ever seen. To that point, I should remind you that after updating the Top 25 And 1 a total of 21 times all of last offseason (because that's all that was required), I'm now already on the 21st version of the Top 25 And 1 this offseason — and this offseason is still just 31 days old.
