Paul Finebaum sends strong message on Arch Manning’s ability to replace Quinn Ewers as Texas QB1
Paul Finebaum doesn’t only believe that Arch Manning is a capable QB1 replacement for Quinn Ewers, but the SEC Network host also foresees the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning winning a Heisman Trophy at some point in his collegiate career at Texas.
"Book it," Finebaum said (h/t Sports Illustrated). "Arch Manning is going to win the Heisman. I am in on that. And by the way, his grandad and Peyton probably should have won it and Arch will. Can you imagine? He's replacing a Heisman favorite right now. I don't know if he'll win it this year, but Arch Manning will definitely win the Heisman at Texas."
Manning has completed 14 of his 18 pass attempts during the 2024 season; 12 of them coming in relief for Ewers, who suffered an abdominal strain in the second quarter of a 56-7 win over UTSA at DKR Stadium in Austin. Five of those 18 passes were for touchdowns and Manning added another two TDs with his legs.
Finebaum may seem hyperbolic and trying to push a narrative that is more sizzle than steak but he’s spot-on here.
Manning may be that good.
Quinn Ewers’ NFL draft stock can take a hit if Arch Manning takes over for Texas
Manning may be so good that Steve Sarkisian can’t remove him from the QB1 role without angering Longhorn fans. If that’s the case, Ewers’ NFL draft stock is about to take a major hit.
Sometimes, when you have two QBs, you actually have none. But Texas has two of the best QBs in the country. Both deserve to see snaps and lead a team.
Manning may be leading Texas now for good. If that’s the case, Ewers did everything right and will still lose in the grand scheme.
It’s a shame, but that’s sports.
