New York Jets elevate defensive line help for Sunday's road game vs. Titans
The New York Jets have elevated Practice Squad player Jalyn Holmes to the active gameday roster for the second week in a row.
Holmes will add to the Jets' defensive line rotation when they visit the Tennessee Titans on September 15 for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff. The 28-year-old defensive end is in his second season with New York after signing a P-Squad contract in 2023.
Eventually signing to the active roster, Holmes appeared in five games for the 2023 Jets. He logged 81 defensive snaps and 16 special teams reps. Holmes, a 2018 fourth-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings, has played in games for four different franchises.
Holmes saw 16 snaps on defense in New York's season-opening setback to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. The Ohio State product totaled three tackles, including one hit for a loss, as the defensive line struggled to neutralize the 49ers' rushing attack.
Obviously, the Jets are not currently at full strength when it comes to the defensive end position with Pro Bowler Haason Reddick dragging his contract standoff into the regular season.
Holmes was one of six defensive ends active for the season opener against the 49ers, joining Jermaine Johnson, Micheal Clemons, Will McDonald, Takk McKinley and Braiden McGregor. Clemons is officially listed as questionable to play in Week 2 due to a triceps injury.
