Lead ESPN reporter updates NFL scouts’ view of Michigan TE Colston Loveland after injury
ESPN’s Pete Thamel relayed that NFL scouts see Michigan TE Colston Loveland as the top player at his position for the 2025 draft. Unfortunately, the news wasn't all good for Loveland, as he went down favoring his right arm after a 20-yard catch during the final drive of the first half against Arkansas State on September 7.
Thamel struck a worried tone discussing Loveland’s injury within the context of USC’s Week 4 visit to Michigan Stadium.
“With USC looming next week, this is worth watching for Michigan,” Thamel wrote on Twitter in the aftermath of Loveland’s injury. “Loveland is Michigan’s best play maker in the pass game. Scouts consider Loveland the top tight end in the upcoming draft.”
Loveland had three catches for 30 yards against the Red Wolves. On the season, he has 19 catches and 187 yards.
Michigan is 2-1 after their 28-18 victory over Arkansas State on September 14. Losing Loveland made a tough matchup against the Trojans an even tougher one, though. The QB uncertainty between Davis Warren, who was benched against the Red Wolves after throwing three interceptions, and Alex Orji only complicates things.
Michigan signed Sherrone Moore to a coaching contract at the worst possible time
Signing Sherrone Moore to a contract after the Wolverines got blown out by Texas was a decision that has a chance to age very poorly, very quickly. Had the deal been signed before the Longhorns ran up the score in a 31-12 rout, Michigan’s brain trust would’ve looked much better than they do now.
Since it was signed after, though, the Wolverines have to make due, survive the bad PR this season is going to produce, and pick up the pieces in the offseason. At least it looks like an underwhelming season considering how the first three weeks have gone.
Moore has to survive until the offseason, at the very least, for Michigan to look like anything but a dysfunctional mess.
