Mike Macdonald proud of 'togetherness' of Seahawks following record-setting win over Patriots
The Seattle Seahawks are learning to win tough, ugly games early in the regular season. That should bode well for what certainly appears to be a playoff team after a very promising 2-0 start to the year. In fact, it's a record-breaking start for rookie head coach Mike Macdonald, as no other coach in franchise history has started their first season with a 2-0 record.
Obviously, fans, players and coaches are on an adrenaline rush right now. Let's hear what the man of the hour had to say about a real nailbiter. Here's part of Macdonald's opening statement after his team's overtime win in New England, per Bob Condotta at the Seattle Times.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald on win vs. Patriots
"What a heck of a football game. We know the game was gonna come down to the fourth quarter. Didn't expect to come down to the fifth quarter, but whatever it takes. I'm just proud of the fight. The resiliency. Just the confidence, the support, the togetherness of our football team. So, that's a really good football team that we played. Tough, obviously they ran the ball really well, they stopped the run... but our guys came through in the end. And we're proud of our guys."
It should go down as one of the more memorable wins in franchise history, and not just because of Macdonald's new record. This kind of victory on the road early in the season builds confidence and character, qualities they'll need for the postseason run.
Their schedule is about to get significantly harder, though.
Next week the highly-talented Miami Dolphins visit, followed by a road game against the extremely well-coached Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. After a nice break to host the shell of the New York Giants they'll face their biannual video game boss when the San Francisco 49ers come to visit for a Thursday Night Football matchup in Week 6.
