NFL Week 3 odds have Seattle Seahawks favored over Miami Dolphins by almost a touchdown
The Seattle Seahawks are off to a hot start this season (2-0) and the oddsmakers seem to believe that their winning ways will continue in Week 3. According to the latest figures available at Draft Kings Sportsbook, Seattle is considered a 5.5 point favorite for this coming Sunday's home game against the Miami Dolphins.
When the schedule came out a few months ago this was not the case. The Dolphins opened as a two-point favorite even though they're playing on the road. However, the math has dramatically changed for Miami over the last week, and not in a good way. Last Thursday night starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered another concussion, his third in the NFL we know of.
Why Seahawks are favored over Dolphins
While Tua is resisting calls to retire, it would make a lot of sense if he is not going to be in the lineup for this week's game. Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters on Friday that he doesn't see how Tagovailoa can go, but also said "who am I to judge?"
These updated odds tell us everything we need to know, though. No matter what McDaniel or the Dolphins say about Tua's status for this week, he's likely already been ruled out internally.
With Tagovailoa on the sidelines, Miami will be starting Skyler Thompson at quarterback. Thompson was a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft after playing his college ball at Kansas State. Thompson will literally be a long way from Kansas on Sunday, though.
So far rookie head coach Mike Macdonald's defense has successfully managed to trip up two quarterbacks in a row: both rookie Bo Nix and the veteran Jacoby Brissett struggled. Nix finished with just 138 total passing yards in Week 1, while Brissett managed 149 yesterday. Fans should expect more of the same from Thompson and quite possibly worse.
