Most points by a rookie in WNBA: Where Caitlin Clark ranks on all-time list after career-best performance
Caitlin Clark continued her assault on the WNBA's record books Sunday. This time, she used her scoring prowess to outpace her predecessors.
With a career-high 35-point outburst against the Wings, the Fever guard set the record for most points in a single season among rookie talents.
The Iowa product sidestep a host of WNBA legends to take the accolade, including a four-time WNBA champion who eventually earned enshrinement into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Most points by a rookie in WNBA
Clark added another piece of WNBA history to her collection Sunday, this time setting the league's rookie record for most points in a single season.
With 761 points (and counting), Clark stands alone in WNBA history. She surpassed Seimone Augustus' previous record of 744, set in the 2006 season. It's worth noting that Augustus only played in 34 games that year, while Clark just completed her 39th of the year. Augustus, a Basketball Hall of Famer, averaged nearly three more points than the Fever phenom in her rookie campaign. She also did so while sinking 45.6 percent of her field goal attempts and 35.3 percent of her triples. Clark's true shooting percentage — a measure of shooting efficiency that takes into account 2-point field goals, 3-point field goals, and free throws — is more than four percentage points better than that of Augustus', for what it's worth.
Here's a look at the 15 most prolific rookie campaigns in WNBA history, spearheaded by Clark and Augustus/

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Caitlin Clark | 761 | 39 | 22 | Fever | 2024 |

5 | Cappie Pondexer | 624 | 32 | 23 | Mercury | 2006 |
6 | Cynthia Cooper | 621 | 28 | 34 | Comets | 1997 |
6 | Breanna Stewart | 621 | 34 | 21 | Storm | 2016 |
8 | Candace Parker | 610 | 33 | 22 | Sparks | 2008 |
9 | Tamika Catchings | 594 | 32 | 22 | Fever | 2002 |
10 | Aliyah Boston | 578 | 40 | 21 | Fever | 2023 |

14 | Elena Delle Donne | 543 | 30 | 23 | Sky | 2013 |
15 | Betty Lennox | 541 | 32 | 23 | Lynx | 2000 |
All of that is to say, Clark is having a legendary maiden year in the W. Sunday's accomplishment was simply further evidence.
