Commanders urged to trade former first-round pick to Jets for Haason Reddick
The Washington Commanders could use an edge rusher like Haason Reddick to boost the defense.
Those Commanders could also use an exit ramp for former first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes Jr., too.
Most fans would probably agree with those two statements and so goes the logic for Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, who suggests the Commanders ship Forbes and a fourth-round pick in 2026 to the New York Jets in exchange for Reddick:
“The Commanders coulduse edge-rushing help after dealing both Montez Sweat and Chase Young at last year's deadline. Washington added Dante Fowler Jr. and Dorance Armstrong this offseason, but neither possesses Reddick's upside.” The Commanders trading for Reddick, thought, would be slightly more complicated than it seems.
Reddick, after all, has been a holdout from the Jets all summer after coming over via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles due to his seeking a new contract. Trading for him would likely require coughing up assets and paying up on a massive contract extension.
Still, Reddick has been super-productive as a pass-rusher and would be formidable alongside the likes of Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen.
And again, some of this is about dumping Forbes, who, despite being a 2023 first-round pick, was honestly on the roster bubble as the latest Ron Rivera-era pick on his way out the door. He posted a 33.5 Pro Football Focus grade in Week 1, so his days even being active might not be long, anyway.
This is a match between two teams merely looking to get out of certain situations and a cross-conference trade idea, so perhaps it’s something that comes to fruition over the next month or so.
