What happened to Derrick White? Celtics guard punched during fight at Colorado-Colorado State football game
Derrick White's appearance at the Colorado vs. Colorado State over the weekend appeared to spark mayhem at Canvas Stadium, home of the Rams.
White, a CU alum who starred for the Buffaloes in 2016 and 2017, traveled to enemy territory to lend his support for his beloved alma mater on Saturday. He was greeted by a gaggle of Colorado State fans who filled in the section he was sitting in.
Things appeared to be calm between White and his adversaries until partway through the third quarter. That's when White's interaction with a segment of CSU fans turned physical.
Here's what you need to know.
What happened to Derrick White?
White was one of this year's Rocky Mountain Showdown's most dignified guests. The Olympic gold medalist took his place in the Rams' concourses with little fanfare, at least by the masses of Colorado State supporters who pooled across the area.
Nevertheless, things were fairly tame. White and a few CSU fans reportedly got into a verbal tiff during the second quarter.
In the third, things proceeded to unravel. White's hat flew off after a Colorado State fan brushed White's face with an attempted spinning backfist.

Legions of Buffs supporters stood up for the 30-year-old Celtics star following the incident, with some confronting the Rams fan and others comforting White. To his credit, White didn't appear too distressed about the incident.
Security personnel intervened soon after the incident took place, successfully dispersing the two warring factions.
No police report was filed after Saturday's brief skirmish. White was seen walking up the stairs — and away from the action — shortly after security came on the scene.
