Chelsea are set for a Premier League fine following their wild 1-0 win away at Bournemouth on September 14.

Christopher Nkunku came off the bench to slot home a late winner for Enzo Maresca's side at the Vitality Stadium to end the Cherries unbeaten start to the EPL season.

However, the final result was almost a sub-plot, as referee Anthony Taylor took centre stage on the South Coast by handing out a Premier League record of 16 yellow cards.

That tally overtook the previous card record of 13 from Tottenham's 2-1 home win over Sheffield United in 2023 with Maresca and his opposite number Andoni Iraola also cautioned.

Incredibly, Taylor managed to keep his red card pocketed, but both teams will now face a Premier League sanction.

As per reports from the Daily Mail, Premier League rules state any team receiving six or more yellow cards in one-game will automatically pick up a £25,000 ($33,000) fine.

Bournemouth had six players booked, with Chelsea on eight, and neither club are expected to dispute the Premier League's decision on the matter.

Up next for Chelsea is a trip to old rivals West Ham United on September 21 which could see the card counter cranked up again.
