Bill Belichick chose Patriots defender as his Week 1 Football Guy of the Week
For 24 years Bill Belichick led the New England Patriots and didn't say a whole lot in the media, but now that he has multiple jobs covering the game, his opinions are everywhere.
One place where Belichick can be seen and heard now is "Inside the NFL" with former NFL players Chad Johnson, Ryan Clark and Chris Long, where the crew will break down games and moments from the week that was.
On this past week's episode, the three former players were asked to nominate a single player to be their Football Guy of the Week, and Belichick would pick the best option to win the honor.
Long nominated Patriots defensive end Keion White for his 2.5-sack performance against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, and Belichick sided with Long over Clark's pick (San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason) and Johnson's selection (Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield).
"I've got to give it to Keion White," Belichick said. "First of all, I love Keion White. He can play outside and can play inside. He's tough, strong, and he can really play the run and play the pass. He just needs a little bit more experience and technique. You saw what he did in Week 1."
Belichick selected White in the second round of his final draft with the Patriots, and while he played less than 50% of the team's defensive snaps in his rookie season, he showed some real potential.
Now, after one game in his second year, he already has more than double his sacks from last season.
If he keeps up this trajectory, he could end up being one of Belichick's best draft selections.
