Bears vs. Texans Week 2 odds, picks, predictions, expert betting tips for Sunday Night Football
The future is bright for the NFL. And in Week 2 on Sunday Night Football, two of the young faces of football — C.J. Stroud and Caleb Williams — will square off as the Texans host the Bears in Houston (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC).
Stroud and the Texans rallied after a poor start to squeak by the Colts in Week 1. The 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year might be a Beatles fan because he got by with a little help from his friends in the 29-27 win.
It was a typical Stroud line — 24-of-32, 234 yards, 2 TDs, and no turnovers — but new Texans Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon had the real head-turning stats. Diggs caught both TDs, while Mixon tallied 178 total yards and a score on a whopping 33 touches.

The Bears, meanwhile, seem like a bit more of a work in progress. Williams showed his inexperience many times in Chicago's 24-17 win over the Titans, completing just 14-of-29 passes for 93 yards and no TDs.
Both these squads will have to clean things up a bit ahead of Sunday's primetime tilt, but injuries to key players on each side could make that a tall order. Heading into the weekend, questionable tags could be found next to Bears receivers Keenan Allen (heel) and Rome Odunze (knee) and Texans wideout Nico Collins (illness).
Here's the Sporting News' full betting breakdown of Texans vs. Bears on Sunday Night Football, including the BetMGM odds as well as the best bets and top props of the night.
Texans vs. Bears odds, spread, over/under
Odds courtesy of BetMGM.
- Spread: Texans -6.5 (-110) | Bears +6.5 (-110)
- Over/Under: OVER 46.5 (-110) | UNDER 46.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Texans -275 | Bears +225
The Texans opened the week as -6.5 favorites and a healthy -275 on the moneyline, and the odds didn't budge going into the weekend. The -275 translates to a roughly 75-percent win probability, and only two teams in the NFL are favored by more points than Houston this week.

Should you bet the Texans against the spread vs. the Bears?
In a word, yes. The Bears have not won a Sunday Night Football contest in a decade, and their offense didn't look ready for primetime last week. They got away with a lot of miscues of mental lapses at home against the Titans, but they probably won't get bailed out by DeMeco Ryans' Texans in Houston.
The Texans sit way above Chicago in terms of offensive weapons. Stroud might be the most polished 22-year-old QB since Justin Herbert in 2020, and he has an insane foursome of playmakers around him in Diggs, Collins, Mixon, and Tank Dell. Houston's offensive line leaves a lot to be desired, but Stroud's IQ and quick release make up for his occasional protection issues.

The Bears, meanwhile, proved two things in Week 1: their offensive line still struggles at times, and Williams isn't quite ready to handle strong pass rushes. Chicago gave the rookie an average of just 2.1 seconds of pocket time against Tennessee, often dominated by T'Vondre Sweat and Jeffery Simmons. It doesn't get much easier this week against Houston's Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson.
Then there's the fact that Allen and Odunze are both hampered by injuries going into the weekend, which could have them OUT at worst and ill-prepared for the game at best. If DJ Moore gets forced to play a Superman role, don't hold your breath for a potential upset. Derek Stingley sits among the top young cornerbacks in the game, and he will relish a chance to lock down DJ. It could be a long day for Caleb and the Bears.
Our Pick:Texans -6.5 (-110)
Should you bet the Texans-Bears OVER?
Both these teams have sneaky good defenses, so it's understandable why 88 percent of the over/under money on this game has been placed on the UNDER. However, the Texans just put 29 points on the Colts after a slow start, and Houston controlled the ball for a whopping 40 minutes in the process. We lean slightlytowards the OVER, and like Houston's team total OVER of 26.5 even better.
A prop we like even better: the Bears' team UNDER of 19.5 points. That's at -105, which seems very intriguing considering Chicago just put up 93 total yards of offense at home against Tennessee. If Hunter and Anderson bear down on Williams (excuse the pun) — and Stingley largely neutralizes Moore — the Bears will be lucky to put up two touchdowns, never mind 20 points.
Our Pick: OVER 46.5 (-110) for the game, Bears UNDER 19.5 points on the team total market.
Final score prediction: Texans 30, Bears 17
Top player prop for Texans vs. Bears
T.J. Edwards, LB, Bears: OVER 8.5 tackles + assists (+105)
Edwards played 64-of-64 defensive snaps against the Titans, and he produced in a major way for any of his IDP fantasy investors. He finished with 10 solo tackles and five assists, nearly double this combined prop.
Considering Mixon just logged a personal career-high 30 carries in a close game against Indy last week, it's easy to envision the veteran seeing workhorse volume again in a positive game script this weekend. We can't shy away from the plus odds on a prop that seems projected about four combined tackles too low.
